Ceremony & Ritual

Honoring the life, spirit, and story of your beloved companion

At A Beloved Farewell, we believe that the end of a pet’s life is not just a medical moment—it’s a sacred one. Whether simple or elaborate, ritual brings meaning to grief and creates space to honor the bond you’ve shared.

Dr. Ken Gorczyca, a veterinarian and trained death doula, gently guides families through ceremonies that reflect their values, memories, and love. Each ritual is unique and heartfelt, offering peace to both the pet and their people. Dr. Ken offers a short ceremonial ritual with each rite of passage unless you and your family prefer solitude. He also offers an obituary poem after hearing your animal companion's life story, which you can choose to share.

What Ceremony Might Include

  • A short farewell ritual at the time of euthanasia

  • Smudging with cedar or sage to cleanse and bless

  • Bells or chimes to mark transition

  • A quartz heart to represent spirit and unconditional love

  • A personalized reading, prayer, or poem

  • A life story reflection or moment of silence

  • Opportunities for other family members (including children) to participate

“There is beauty in bearing witness. These moments, held with care and intention, can help ease the transition and deepen the goodbye.”

Personalized Planning Sessions

If you'd like to plan a more intentional farewell in advance, Dr. Ken offers a optional detailed ceremony planning consultation by phone or Zoom.
